So we had another long weekend recently, had no class on monday because is was "sports day". My friends and I decided to head to Kyoto since it is nearby and we had yet to spend any significant time there. We met up with a couple japanese friends of ours Takuma and Kaori and walked around. First we went to an amazing temple (which wouldn't allow pictures unfortunately) which contained 1000 identical statues lined up together. This created a very powerful image and was quite striking. I only wish that I could have gotten some pictures to show you all but many buddhist temples dont allow pictures in the areas where people worship.

After the temple we discovered a matsuri (festival) and spent most of the rest of the day there. There was music and great Japanese food all over the place. On several occasions, Japanese teenagers came up to me and just started talking, asking me questions about my stay in Japan and whatnot. Very fun. Also there were some amazing dance troupes performing. Many of us got some video footage of it which i will post a bit later.

To end the night we found a british pub called the Pig and Whistle. I was jonesing for fish and chips so that was perfect. This was also the first place that I have found in Japan with such a selection of drinks. We introduced several of our friends to Jager bombs and played darts. All in all a great trip!
